This course introduces game design through a game development platform called Godot. Godot is an open source game development platform created in 2014 that is capable of creating games for computer, mobile and web platforms. Godot utilizes a high level programming language called GD script, which closely resembles python, one of the most popular programming languages nowadays.
Throughout the course, students will learn how to build their own games using various assets to create game scenes and worlds for their game to exist in. They will also learn different concepts and terms that relates to game design and development and apply their programming knowledge to render their world and game functional and interactive using GDscript. Through these steps, students will be able to create various types of games such as a 2D platformer game that is similar to Super Mario. Godot will also allow student’s games to be built to mobile devices as well as desktop.
At the end of the course, students will have experience in creating games in 2D and 3D using Godot and would have picked up knowledge on how to make their own own games using Godot.
