From Pixar movies to Minecraft, from 3D printing to virtual / augmented reality, 3D technologies are permeating our lives.

This generation of kids and teens are 3D natives, from 3D movies to games. By teaching them the programming concepts behind 3D computer programs, this course empowers them to become creators of 3D technologies.

In this course, we first provide a gentle introduction to 3D modeling using Blender, a professional 3D design tool. Students gain hands-on experience in 3D geometry and create fun 3D objects. Using these custom objects created in Blender, students are then introduced to the programming language C# to program their own 3D world in Unity.



  • Theoretical / Conceptual:
    • Summarize the concept of 3D modeling
    • Understand the design fundamentals of 3D game programming
  • Technical or Software skills:
    • Manipulate and design objects in Blender software interface
    • Export objects and import to Unity for game design
    • Understand the various components of Blender, the primary building tool of 3D modeling
    • Understand and be able to navigate the different interfaces in Unity
  • Tangible and/or Portfolio Outcomes
    • A collection of 3D objects of their own design
    • Their first 3D game and showcase it on their computer
    • Access to resources to learn more about 3D modeling design and programming
    • Basic experience with 3D design and programming
