AppJamming: Make Your Own App!

This course aims to empower students through teaching them problem solving using technology. Adapting a curriculum used in Silicon Valley, we cover user-centric design and Android mobile app development through creating a series of utility apps and mobile games. From introducing fundamental computer science concepts, applying Design Thinking process, to utilizing AppInventor as a language, students learn to think through algorithms, decompose problems and formulating multiple solutions.

Visual Art with Code: Introduction to Java Processing

Designed for the creative minded, students in this course learn to code in Processing, a Java-based software tool that serves as a gentle introduction to type-based coding languages. Through creating visual coding sketches, students produce amazing graphic arts and explore new opportunities to utilize computational power across disciplines. Students will be introduced to key computer science concepts like functions and loops, as well basic design theories such as the golden ratio.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Genius Hour

At First Code, we believe that learning continues beyond the classroom. Genius Hour aims to foster a community of creators, where students can come together outside of weekly lesson time to continue building their favourite coding projects with guidance from our team of instructors.

First Code Pitch

'Do things Tell People' is one of our core classroom values, stemming from our belief that confidence and taking pride in our work is a key life skill for young learners. With First Code Pitch, students take to the stage to showcase their projects and get inspired by peers.

AppJamming Summit

Since 2014, the yearly app development competition has inspired a community of coders from as young as age 8. Open to all students from the region, the competition has seen range of creative apps that have gone on to win prizes at the global AppInventor Summit at MIT in Boston.
